Evaluation of Resident Physicians’ Knowledge of and Attitudes Towards Prescribing Buprenorphine for Patients with OUD

This study evaluated internal medicine (IM) residents’ knowledge of, attitudes towards, and barriers to prescribing buprenorphine for opioid use disorder (OUD). More than 160 residents were surveyed to assess demographics, knowledge base, and perceptions about using buprenorphine to treat OUD. The results indicate that inadequate knowledge base was common and the most-commonly cited barrier to prescribing buprenorphine.
