UPDATED STATEWIDE OVERDOSE SURVEILLANCE REPORTS – JUNE 2022

The Injury and Violence Prevention Branch of the Division of Public Health recently posted an update of suspected overdose deaths, fentanyl-positive deaths, and provisional data on ED visits for overdose. Note there continue to be known data quality issues for May and June 2021 ED visits that are impacting the shown trends, interpret the data for these months with caution.

Fentanyl-Positive Deaths

There were 225 fentanyl-positive deaths this May compared to 283 this time last year (May 2021). Note that due to the time needed to finalize toxicology results, this report is one month behind the other reports shared in this update.

There were 326 suspected overdose deaths this June compared to 288 this time last year (June 2021).

There were 1,201 overdose ED visits this June involving medication or drugs with dependency potential compared to 1,345 this time last year (June 2021).
