While the federal government eliminated the DATA-X Waiver requirement to prescribe medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) last year, there is an additional requirement that controlled medication prescribers must receive at least 8 hours of education on treating and managing patients with substance use disorder. This is a one-time training requirement which is self-reported on the DEA registration form for new and renewing applicants. This interactive training suite, developed by the Mountain Area Health Education Training Center (MAHEC) with support from the Governor’s Institute, has been developed in accordance with the recommendations from the DEA and SAMHSA for the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act.
