The Injury and Violence Prevention Branch of the Division of Public Health (IVPB) recently posted an update of suspected overdose deaths, fentanyl-positive deaths, and provisional data on ED visits for overdose reports.
Suspected Overdose Deaths
There were 334 suspected overdose deaths in August 2023 compared to 402 in August 2022.
Fentanyl-Positive Deaths
There were 228 fentanyl-positive deaths in June 2023 compared to 272 in June 2022. Please note that due to the time needed to finalize toxicology results, this report is two months behind the other reports shared in this update.
Overdose Involving Medication or Drugs with Dependency Potential
There were 1,495 overdose ED visits in August 2023 involving medication or drugs with dependency potential compared to 1,421 this time last year (August 2022).
