Governor Josh Stein has proclaimed September as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disoders (FASD) Awareness month to highlight the message that no amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy. The proclamation coincides with several national FASD awareness month observances that emphasize the importance of alcohol-free pregnancies to avoid Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, which are lifelong conditions that can occur when a baby is exposed to alcohol before birth.
The NC Department of Health and Human Services Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Use Services (DMH/DD/SUS) offers many services to people who have alcohol misuse needs:
- Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Centers provide a comprehensive range of mental health and substance use services.
- The Peer Warmline is a free, confidential number available anytime for those needing a supportive ear—no crisis required.
- The Connections App connects users with certified peer recovery specialists, 24/7.
