Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment Month, observed each January, highlights the importance of treatment and recovery by supporting:
- Individuals who are considering or seeking help for substance use
- Practitioners who treat—or are interested in treating—substance use disorders
- Friends, family members, and loved ones of those affected by substance use conditions
By raising awareness of effective treatment options, including medications for substance use disorders, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) aims to:
- Reduce stigma surrounding treatment and the use of medications
- Encourage individuals along their treatment and recovery journeys
- Promote evidence-based practices such as screening, early intervention, and comprehensive treatment by health care providers
