New Resource: County-Level North Carolina State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (NC SUDORS) Overdose Data Fact Sheets

A new NC-SUDORS factsheet is available with aggregate data by county or congressional district. The two-page fact sheet gives an overview of overdose in the specified region over the past five year. It includes rates, demographics, and NC-SUDORS circumstance data such as route of drug administration, if a bystander was present, and more information surrounding the decedent’s fatal overdose. Factsheets by congressional district and those counties with an average of ten or more fatal overdoses over the last five years will be available on the NC Division of Public Health’s Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB) website.

The State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to enable states to collect detailed overdose death information. Implemented in North Carolina by DPH’s Injury and Violence Prevention Branch, NC-SUDORS is made up of multiple sources of data including death certificates, medical examiner reports, and toxicology results. The incorporation of different sources of data provides a unique opportunity to better understand the circumstances surrounding overdose deaths.

Visit the NC Overdose Epidemic Data page for more information on NC-SUDORS and other overdose data resources.
