During 2025, the Knox County Regional Forensic Center identified a new synthetic opioid in three East Tennessee counties. While limited information is available on the new substance, here is what is known about N-Propionitrile Chlorphine, which is also known by the name cychlorphine.
According to the forensic center, nine cases involving N-Propionitrile Chlorphine were identified in November and December of 2025. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also confirmed to 6 News that it first encountered the synthetic opioid in late 2025.
