The Injury and Violence Prevention Branch of the Division of Public Health (IVPB) recently posted an update of suspected overdose deaths, fentanyl-positive deaths, and provisional data on ED visits for overdose reports.
Suspected Overdose Deaths
There were 324 suspected overdose deaths in November 2023 compared to 350 in November 2022.
Fentanyl-Positive Deaths
There were 249 fentanyl-positive deaths in September 2023 compared to 292 in September 2022. Please note that due to the time needed to finalize toxicology results, this report is two months behind the other reports shared in this update. These data should still be considered provisional and likely to change; low numbers may be due to a delay rather than a decrease in deaths.
Overdose Involving Medication or Drugs with Dependency Potential
There were 1,102 overdose ED visits in November 2023 involving medication or drugs with dependency potential compared to 1,337 this time last year (November 2022).
