A new American Medical Association (AMA) report focuses on the increase in drug overdose deaths, investigates causes and calls for meaningful action to remove barriers to evidence-based practice in treatment, harm reduction and pain management. “It is past time for policymakers, health insurers, pharmacy chains and pharmacy benefit managers to remove barriers to evidence-based care for patients with pain and those with a substance use disorder,” said AMA’s Opioid Task Force chair and immediate past president, Patrice A.
