Retention in outpatient treatment settings for opioid use disorder remains a critical challenge. This study used data from more than 130,000 episodes obtained from the 2017 Treatment Episode Dataset-Discharges (TEDS-D) to assess predictors of retention in treatment with medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). Researchers found about two-thirds of patients in MOUD discontinue prior to six months and notable factors associated with lower retention include younger age, homelessness, and co-using methamphetamines.
