Updated NC Statewide Overdose Surveillance Reports

The Injury and Violence Prevention Branch of the Division of Public Health recently updated the provisional data on opioid-related poisoning deaths (NC OCME), and the opioid overdose and unintentional med/drug overdose with potential for abuse emergency department visits reports (NC DETECT).

Opioid Overdose:

There were 784 opioid overdose ED visits this July compared to 560 this time last year (July 2019).

Overdose Involving Medication or Drugs with Dependency Potential:

There were 1,382 overdose ED visits this July involving medication or drugs with dependency potential compared to 1,029 this time last year (July 2019).
