New Statewide and Updated NC-SUDORS Overdose Data Fact Sheets

The NC-State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) county-level and congressional district fact sheets have been updated with 2024 data. In addition, leaders have created a statewide fact sheet that provides an overview of overdoses in North Carolina. The fact sheet includes trends over time, rates of overdose by demographic, and NC-SUDORS circumstance data, such as route of drug administration, if a bystander was present, and more information surrounding fatal overdoses in North Carolina.

SUDORS is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to enable states to collect detailed overdose death information. Implemented in North Carolina by DPH’s Injury and Violence Prevention Branch, NC-SUDORS is made up of multiple sources of data, including death certificates, medical examiner reports, and toxicology results. The incorporation of different sources of data provides a unique opportunity to better understand the circumstances surrounding overdose deaths.
