New Statewide Overdose Surveillance Reports for February 2021

The Injury and Violence Prevention Branch of the Division of Public Health recently updated provisional data on opioid-related overdose and unintentional med/drug overdose with potential for abuse emergency department visits reports (NC DETECT), and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Suspected Opioid Overdose Encounters report.

Overdose Involving Medication or Drugs with Dependency Potential

There were 1,107 overdose ED visits this February involving medication or drugs with dependency potential compared to 931 this time last year (Feb 2020).

There were 625 opioid overdose ED visits this February compared to 528 this time last year (Feb 2020).

There were 1,154 EMS suspected opioid overdose encounters this February compared to 609 this time last year (Feb 2020).
