The Injury and Violence Prevention Branch of the Division of Public Health (IVPB) recently posted an update of suspected overdose deaths, provisional data on ED visits for overdose, and fentanyl-positive deaths reports.

Suspected Overdose Deaths

There were 335 suspected overdose deaths in July 2023 compared to 314 in July 2022.

There were 323 fentanyl-positive deaths in May 2023 compared to 266 in May 2022. Please note that due to the time needed to finalize toxicology results, this report is two months behind the other reports shared in this update.

There were 1,559 overdose ED visits in July 2023 involving medication or drugs with dependency potential compared to 1,433 this time last year (July 2022).
